Fire Rated Group 2 Plywood is an innovative, lightweight plywood engineered for superior fire resistance in construction projects. Certified as Building Code of Australia (BCA) Fire Hazard Group Number 2, this advanced total wood product is ideal for wall and ceiling linings in Class 2-9 buildings. Its unique fire-retardant properties are achieved through veneer impregnation prior to plywood production, ensuring the entire product, not just the exterior, offers enhanced fire resistance.

Crafted from European Poplar, Fire Rated Group 2 Plywood boasts a density of 460-520 kg/m³ and a moisture content of 6-14%. It's designed for easy machining and can be readily cut, drilled, and shaped using standard woodworking tools.

While certified to AS 5637.1:2015 using ISO 9075-2003 as the primary test method, it also demonstrates excellent results in AS 1530.3 tests. Fire Rated Group 2 Plywood is available certified PEFC 100% and features low formaldehyde emissions, meeting E1 certification standards.

Fire Rated Group 2 Plywood combines advanced fire safety technology with the natural beauty and workability of wood. Its dimensional stability, ease of use, and multi-faceted performance make it an ideal choice for projects where fire resistance, sustainability, and versatility are essential. Whether for commercial, educational, or healthcare settings, this plywood offers a reliable, high-quality solution for modern construction needs.

Important notice: All wood-based panels are by nature potentially subject to bowing, cupping or warping following application of timber veneer. Read our panel manufacturing guidelines to learn more.

Recommended application: Designed for use in commercial applications where improved resistance to fire is required, such as schools, aged care and health care facilities.

Important notice

Plywood is a natural wood product that can be affected by ambient weather conditions which may cause sheets to bow. At Bord, all precautions are taken to ensure flatness at time of dispatch. Once plywood has left our factory we cannot guarantee sheets will remain flat unless fastened. This is particularly important for non-fastened cabinet doors.

About Plywood

Plywood is a sheet building material used in construction and furniture making. It is a man-made product, made by glueing thin layers of wood veneer together. There are a number of plywood varieties. Most plywood is graded from A to D. An A grade is appearance grade and free from surface defects. Whereas a C/D grade has flaws and is generally used for structural applications. As one of the leading commercial plywood suppliers in Melbourne and Australia, we pride ourselves on being experts in plywood and can provide professional advice to ensure you have the right product for the job.
